Samenvatting

The Production of Dutch Immigration Policy. The majority of the hundreds of thousands of immigrants who come to Europe annually are from the developing world (the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America); 56% of them immigrate to the Netherlands. Immigrants include both voluntary and involuntary refugees and asylum seekers. A review of some of the recent literature on causes and motives for immigration segues into a consideration of current policy implementation both inside the Netherlands and out: the role of the state and its policies and apparatus is crucial for managing immigration -- border control, visa regulations, asylum policies, and support are also important features of any state's immigration policy. Recent innovations among human service organizations that facilitate immigration include "people-changing organizations," "people-sustaining organizations," and "people-processing organizations.". 36 References.
