World-System Theory in an Era of Transition. A Conversation with Immanuel Wallerstein. In an interview with Wallerstein, focusing on the role of ideologies in the modern world, the French and Leninist revolutions are placed in a framework of gradual liberalization of socialism and conservatism. Also discussed are the legitimacy of the state; processes of globalization; the unification of Europe and its ramnifications for the US; and the increasing divergence of the Northern and Southern economies. An impending crisis of capitalism is predicted, related to processes of urbanization, formal labor, and Kondratieff cycles. Possible future social patterns are discussed in conclusion. 12 References.
