'You Are Going to Write Down that Moroccans Are Bad, Aren't You.' Methodological Obstacles and Cultural Origin. Reliability and validity problems associated with researching young Moroccans in the Netherlands have been related to the marginal position of criminals, who have generally been the subjects of studies involving Moroccan youngsters; however, it is argued that noncriminal Moroccans confront researchers with the same methodological problems. To come to a more appropriate explanation, it is found that cultural elements must be added. Personal experiences with research among young Moroccans are related; demographics and (sub)cultural origins of Moroccans in the Netherlands are outlined. It is contended that, especially for Moroccans from the Rif-area, honor, distrust, and the distinction between researchers and those studied play an important role in everyday behavior and may account for the methodological obstacles. 38 References.
