Samenvatting

The Lust Balance of Sex and Love: Developments since the Sexual Revolution. While the desires for lasting intimacy and for sex are related, a tension grows between them as time passes. In this century, the processes of emancipation and informalization have been accompanied by a sexualization of love and an erotization of sex, but since the sexual revolution, the traditional balance of a male lust-dominated sexuality and complementary female love-dominated sexuality has been under attack. Many people have sought a new equilibrium between desexualized love and depersonalized sexual contact, wishing to find different answers to the question of what kinds of relationships and eroticism are allowable and desirable. Difficulties accompanying the relational and psychological processes in the dominant perceptions of both genders (with emphasis on women) are identified in terms of what makes up a more satisfying lust balance. A literature review of Dutch empirical studies shows that women's liberation has intensified both erotic and sexual awareness, as well as desire for both intimacy and sex. Thus, ambivalent emotions have increased, with the lust balance increasingly experienced as a tension balance. 89 References. Adapted from the source document.
