Samenvatting

World Cities in the Process of Globalization. The role of world cities in the process of globalization is examined. World cities are major urban centers that serve as command centers in the world economy and central nodes in the global network. Examples include New York (US), London (England), and Tokyo (Japan). Other cities, eg, Miami, FL, and Amsterdam, Netherlands, may have outspoken international profiles and be strongly impacted by globalization, but they are more minor players on the global scene. The external global functions and internal urban transformations of five cities are explored, and the spatial dimensions of the globalization process discussed. 8 Tables, 28 References.
