Globalization, Migration and Illegal Aliens. Survival strategies of illegal aliens in the Dutch city of Rotterdam are examined. Though a large portion of these illegal migrants come from former Dutch colonies or countries having guest-worker relations with the Netherlands, the majority came from countries that had no such direct economic or political ties. Illegal aliens were often employed in traditional sectors of the economy such as agriculture or manufacturing, and in expanding service industries, but fully 33% were unemployed.
