Introduction. Few concepts have entered the contemporary public debate so strongly as globalization. This special journal issue is dedicated to various transactions and communications over the great controversies caused by the increasing incorporation of people into internationally dependent networks, the growing significance of transnational organizations, and the loss of autonomy suffered by functionless national states. The term "global" was first borrowed from English by Dutch speakers in 1960, and was used to describe the possibilities opened up by new communication technologies, eg, satellites. Now English globalization is replacing the French equivalent mondialisation. At first, the ideas of globalization were discussed only be academics.
