Samenvatting

Globalization, International Networks and the Regional Paradox. The process of globalization, 1950-1991, is studied through analysis of the density and shape of worldwide networks, particularly those of international trade. Analysis reveals the uneven spread of worldwide connections around the globe. African countries have particularly poor connections to the international system. Although the international playing field of states and other actors has global dimensions, the process of globalization is characterized more by macroregional than worldwide features. It is suggested that economic regionalism is the result of a natural process rather than deliberate policy. 6 Tables, 5 Figures, 33 References. Adapted from the source document.
