The Sociological Study of Transnational Society. A heuristic framework for the study of transnational society is presented, based on a core/periphery model with oligopolistic competition. The framework specifies the appropriate subject matter of sociology as the connections between human beings across national borders and the transnational institutions that mediate those connections. The approach is illustrated through analysis of cultural globalization and the world language system.
