In memoriam Jan-Willem Gerritsen

Abstract

In Memory of Jan-Willem Gerritsen. Sociologist Jan-Willem Gerritsen (1957-1993) was born and raised in Oosterbeek, Netherlands. He studied in Amsterdam and spent a year traveling in South Africa on a student assistantship. Later he worked as a shepherd in the Spanish Pyrenees. Gerritsen studied under Norbert Elias, on whom he was to become an authority. Although he resumed his scholarly activities at the Postdoctoral Instit of Sociology after a heart attack, he died at age 36 of a second heart attack. His untimely death is lamented. 1 Photograph. M.
