Memories of the Herebefore. Social Inheritance Fantasies of Ex-Clients of Reincarnation Therapy. It has been widely agreed that social inheritance depends on processes of socialization, learning, and identification. To determine whether fantasy might also play a role in social inheritance, 10 ex-clients of reincarnation therapy were interviewed. These people imagine their former lives in particular ways in order to explain and make their current life easier to bear. Their fantasies seem to be derived from a combination of popular historical knowledge, supernatural and Eastern religious ideas, vulgarized psychotherapeutic notions, and personal experiences.
