Samenvatting

'Make Sure You Don't Have to Clean Someone Else's Dog-Hole When You're Grown Up.' Class- and Gender-Specific Messages from Parents to Children. Based largely on their own personal experiences, parental messages to children reflect parents' wishes and hopes for their children's future. Since parental messages also set the stage for the development of social aspirations in children, it is disturbing to note that these messages tend to be class- and gender-specific; ie, working class parents tend to warn and to give more gender-specific messages to their children, while middle class parents tend to give more advice. 17 References.
