Modern scholars studying the behavior of wolves, primarily in northern North America and Russia, paint a positive image of these animals and oppose preconceived notions about their habits. In particular, they are critical of assertions that wolves attack and eat human beings. On the other hand, historians are finding evidence to the contrary, based on documents dating from 1588 in Flanders.
