"Don't rouse the lion!". Some notes on the power relations in and kinshiprelations of Italian urban families. This essay explores patterns of development in family-interaction in an Italian city. In particular is spoken of the way in which relations between married couples are dynamically organized and how changes in this relations influence bonds with relatives. It is an attempt to escape from the dichotomising question, whether power within the nuclear family is exclusively in the hands of the husband or his wife. Whether we must speak of a "patrifocal" or "matrifocal" society.
