Abstract

Industrial Rationalization and Temporary Employment Agencies. Growing competition and the use of computers and automatic production machines have made it necessary and possible for industrial firms to minimize their stock supplies. This has gone hand in hand with increasing variation in the size of the production itself. Industrial managers make every effort to adjust the size of their staff to fit this variation. People working for temporary employment agencies will play an important role in this respect, even though trade unions have their objections. This article describes the course of the decision-making process regarding the hiring of people from a temporary employment agency in a factory where agricultural implements are manufactured. It appears that in addition to technological and economic considerations, regional developments which the factory's management had no control over also influenced the decision-making process.
