Samenvatting

Hardly any study has been made of Late Medieval strongholds, despite the fact that this period is of great importance. In the first half of the 16th century great changes take place in the character and way of waging war. The recent study of the block­house Weerdenbras begins to fill this gap as far as the province of Groningen is concerned. But further research is certainly desirable.
