DE TWEEDE FASE VAN DE OPGRAVING MARTINIKERKHOF GRONINGEN (GR.)
Samenvatting
In the city centre of Groningen in the north of the Netherlands archaeological investigations were carried out in 1987 and 1989. Traces of occupation dating from the 5th and 6th centuries AD came in the form of three wells. These wells contained amongst other things Anglo-Saxon pottery. Together with finds from later centuries, it could be demonstrated that Groningen developed from a rural village to a city occupying a strategic position in the region. Foundations dating from the 13th century were foundations of the stone building belonging to the project of the bishop of Utrecht. Furthermore, new insight was gained into the material culture of the Middle Ages and recent times.
