EEN WERVEL VAN EEN ZELDZAME VISSOORT UIT DE ROMEINSE HAVEN VAN VELSEN 1 (N.-H.)
Samenvatting
A fish vertebra found in the harbour area of the Roman militairy settlement of Velsen 1, which was identified provisionally as belonging to a species of the order of the Apodes, could be identified as belonging to the Spanish or chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1782). The find suggests that fish products may have been brought to the Netherlands from faraway southern coasts.
