Samenvatting

Some 20 to 30 villages lying in a raised bog were swallowed up by the Dollard es­tuary between 1400 and 1500 AD. Whenever possible, the inhabitants rebuilt their vil­lages on high boulderclay ridges lying within the parish. The former field boun­daries survived and when the Dollard re­ceded were reinstated. As a result, the lo­cation of the former churchyards can be identified in the old cadastral system.
