KERKEN IN DE VOORMALIGE DOLLARDBOEZEM (GR.)
Samenvatting
Some 20 to 30 villages lying in a raised bog were swallowed up by the Dollard estuary between 1400 and 1500 AD. Whenever possible, the inhabitants rebuilt their villages on high boulderclay ridges lying within the parish. The former field boundaries survived and when the Dollard receded were reinstated. As a result, the location of the former churchyards can be identified in the old cadastral system.
