DE WIERDE DE WEER BIJ STEDUM (GR.)
Samenvatting
In April 1990 a survey was carried out in the dwelling mound 'De Weer' in the Groningen clay district. It turned out that this mound was founded on a clay layer deposited between 300 and 600 AD. According to old finds from this spot in the Groninger Museum, habitation must have started in the 9th-10th century. From the sections it is clear that the mound as a whole developed from several, atmost separate, individual mounds. Its devetopment must have stopped when the salt marsh was protected by dikes.
