DE 14e-EEUWSE SCHATVONDST VAN COEVORDEN (DR.)
Samenvatting
In a stream valley near the town of Coevorden a hoard was discovered consisting of 61 silver coins and a large number of iron objects. Many of the iron finds are associated with military equipment: arrow- and spearheads, a dagger, knives, foot-shackles, a stirrup, spurs, horseshoes, etc. Other items include ingots, an auger bit and gaffs. The coins indicate that the hoard was deposited around 1325-1330. The find is interpreted as a votive offering, linking up with a similar practice in the pre-Christian era.
