GRONINGEN ALS HANDELSCENTRUM IN DE LATERE MIDDELEEUWEN
Samenvatting
For the reconstruction of the exchange and market systems of Groningen in the later Middle Ages (AD 1000-1500) we are dependent on the available historical (only after c. AD 1225) and archaeological sources. The distribution of imported ceramics and coins can inform us about the trade relations of Groningen and the changing economic structures in the town and region. The studies on exchange systems by Carol Smith can be of great help in the interpretation of the various political structures and distribution patterns.
