Samenvatting

A new database system for the storage of data concerning human skeletal remains is introduced. The database was developed using a new reference callection of human skeletons from Utrecht. An expert system is linked to the database. This Physical Anthro­pological Knowledge-based System (PAKS) can be used to apply several methods for the determination of sex, age and stature of human skeletons as well as to establish pathological features of the bones. Considering the growing need for readily accessible data, this recently developed computer system for physical anthropologi­cal research will be of great value for studies of human skeletal remains.
