AANVULLENDE 14C-DATERINGEN
Samenvatting
14C-dates have been obtained for some of the finds, published in Paleo-aktueel 1 and 2. Of the 323 hearth-pits excavated at Nieuwe Pekela 22 were dated, 21 to the period 8490±50 - 7870±70 BP, and 1 to 9110±45 BP. This site appears to have been
visited regularly over several centuries. This may explain the size of the site. Soot on the wall of the Swifterbant pot and the two complete red deer antlers from Bronneger-Voorste Diep were dated in Oxford to 5890±90, 5720±90 and 5970±90 BP, respectively. The mean value is 5860± 55. The dates seem to confirm that pot and antlers were deposited at the same time. A TRB flatgrave from Dalen-Huidbergsveld was dated to 4460±80 BP. The disturbed central cremation pit and the tangential secundary burial in a leveled burial mound were dated to 3325±17 and 3385±35 BP. The Bell Beaker grave with wristguard from Dalen-Eldijk was dated to 3930±55 BP. One of the posts of a wooden screen in front of a medieval inland-dike near Zuidbroek was dated to 290±30 BP. Calibration indicates that this screen must have been constructed after 1475 AD. The over-lying Dallard clay was deposited from the early 16th century on. Re-enforcement of the dike at its Dollard-side somewhere around 1500 AD is likely.
