ARCHEOZOÖLOGISCH ONDERZOEK BIJ DE ZEE VAN MARMARA, TURKIJE
Samenvatting
In this preliminary report on the results of archaeozoological research on sites around or near the Sea of Marmara the fauna spectra of five sites are compared and studied for their similarities and/or dissimilarities. The result is a quite checkered pattern of animal husbandry from the middle of the 6th to the middle of the 5th millennium BC in which a changeover can be seen from Central-Anatolian economic strategies to an economy strongly resembling that of early Balkan sites. In this the region provides evidence about the dispersal of Neolithic inventions and strategies from the Near East to Europe. A typical regional characteristic is the exploitation of coastal areas, especially the consumption of large amounts of shellfish.
