EEN TOPOGRAFISCHE SURVEY VAN HET GRAFVELD CHALANDRIANI OP SYROS (GRIEKENLAND)
Abstract
The research presented here is part of a project envisaging the publication of the finds and results of excavations by Christos Tsountas in 1898 and Klon Stephanos in 1871 at Chalandriani on the island of Syros. Besides the investigation of the finds, a reconstruction of the early Cycladic cemetery is aimed at. The general spatial distribution and organization of the cemetery as well as the characteristics of the individual graves have been studied and documented. The graves were constructed of dry-stone walls on a circular or rectangular plan with corbelled roofs. The opening was accentuated with a special green-stone slab above the entrance. Many of these stabs have been found in collapsed ruins of graves scattered over the site.
