DE GLASVONDSTEN VAN WIJNALDUM (FR.)
Samenvatting
At Wijnaldum some 170 fragments of glass vessels (75% of them undiagnostic) and well over 150 beads have been recovered during the 1991-'93 campaigns. The glass vessels had been imported during the whole period of occupation (2nd- 10th c. AD); only in the 4th c. does there appear to be a gap, because typically 4th c. forms with knocked-off rims are lacking. In the Carolingian period the imports reached their height. Except for those of the Roman period they are exclusively drinking vessels, predominantly common and widespread types. The finds of a fragment of a crucible with opaque yellow glass on the inside, of an opaque yellow tessera and of many undecorated opaque yellow beads indicate that bead-making was practised on the terp. The lack of any production waste was a scarce material and that beadmaking took place on a small scale.
