Abstract

Although scarce in regular excavations, 103 skulls of polled cattle were found during the former commercial exploitation of the soil of dwelling mounds (wierden or terpen) in the northern Netherlands. This article summarizes all available evidence. Maybe the polling of cattle is specific for the coastal area in Roman times.
