HET CASA DI ANGELINA, EEN TRADITIONELE BOERDERIJ BIJ DE OPGRAVING TE FRANCAVILLA MARITTIMA (CALABRIË, ITALIË)
Samenvatting
During the 1992 excavation campaign of the Department of Archaeology of the University of Groningen, at the ancient site 'Timpone della Motta' near Francavilla Mariltima in Calabria (southern Italy), a small subrecent farmhouse on the site was mapped and a small excavation was carried out there alongside the regular excavations. The plan and construction of the farmhouse contain some interesting features that may be of help in the interpretation of the remains of ancient houses. In the living quarters two floor levels were identified to cope with the sloping ground. It was noted that the rear wall of the stable was cut out in the conglomerate bedrock, but not the living, which had a rear wall built of cobbles. Position, weights and counts of tiles showed what may result after the timber of the roof construction has given way. Also the landuse associated with this small farm (olives and cereals mixed in one field) was reorded as typical of subsistence farming in the area.
