Samenvatting

Around the medieval fireplace a number of crude earthenware objects were used, such as spit supports, extinguishers, braziers and candlesticks, all produced in brick-kilns and mostly decorated. Same fragments of braziers and/or extinguishers dating from the 13th-14th century were recently discovered in the housing estate 'De Hunze' near Groningen, and at Oldenoord in the neighbourhood of Middelstum. Both sites are associated with a moated house as a stronghold.
