EGYPTISCH GODINNENPAAR OP GRONINGER WIERDE?
Samenvatting
In the terp Westerhuis, north of the river Reitdiep in the province of Groningen, a small figural bronze was discovered and published in 1964 as a representation of the Egyptian-Roman goddess Isis. Atmost thirty years later, an identical statuette was found on the same terp. The type of the statuettes, female, nude and with a protuberance on top of the head, is not met with in Roman iconography. Also the flat base on which the figurines stand is rather uncommon for Roman bronze statuettes. Therefore it is proposed that the statuettes are not Roman but in fact 19th-century products.
