Samenvatting

The identification of pollen of Rumex acetosa and Rumex acetosella may reveal palaeoecolo­gical and archaeological conditions. Recent vegetations in Drenthe in which these Rumex species dominate, have been studied: vegetation surveys were made and surface pollen samples taken. The vegetation development since the At­lantic of a site in the Gietsenveentje (province of Drenthe) is described, with special emphasis on the role of the above-mentioned Rumex­-species.
