Samenvatting

Aboard the inlandfreighter M 65 of araund AD 1700 a quantity of bone material was found, stacked in a barrel. Our first assumption was that this material constituted the renmants of a food store. However, on closer inspection, it was found wholly to consist of cattle feet, which are not suited for consumption. To find out the purpose of these bones, we compared the sizes and other visible features. It appeared that the hind and fore foot bones could be assigned pairwise to several individuals. From this outcome it can be inferred that the foot bones had been attached to hides, apparently still to be tanned, and hence part of the ship's car go.
