Samenvatting

Areas of artificial raised arable (essen) in Drenthe are of paedogenetic, historical-geogra­phical and archaeological value. At the insti­gation of the province of Drenthe a report has been published showing these values and ad­vising on the implementation of government policy in regard to urban and rural planning. 300 essen were mapped, catalogued and their value assessed. The greater part proved to be valuable. Public authorities have possibilities in the form of legislation to protect these essen.
