OP WEG NAAR EEN NIEUWE VISIE OP DE LANDNAM?
Samenvatting
The term 'landnam' is used to describe changes in the vegetation composition of northwestern Europe at the beginning of the Subboreal period as seen in pollen diagrams. These changes were caused by the first farmers. According to the classical theory, two types of landnam can be recognized. These two types have been thought to represent two different methods of agriculture. The results of research in the Gietsenveentje (province of Drenthe, the Netherlands) show that there are important other factors which may underlie the two types of landnam in pollen diagrams. These factors include the distance from the coring location to the arable fields, the size of the bog, the type of sediment in which the landnam spectrum occurs and the position of the coring location within the bog.
