EEN OLDE HOF TE HAREN (GR.)

Samenvatting

During the summer of 1997 the municipality of Haren created an opportunity to excavate an open plot in the centre of this village. The site was situated immediately to the north of the medieval church and was relatively undisturbed. It turned out to be part of a farmyard with traces of farmhouses, sheds, wells and ditches, dating from the mid 7th to the 15th century. The farm must have been one of the olde hoven ('old farmsteads') indicated on a map from the beginning of the 19th century. By that time the site was already uninhabited.
