EEN TERPJE IN HARLINGEN, GEMEENTE HARLINGEN (FR.)

Auteurs

Samenvatting

This article presents the results of a small-scale, one-day excavation in the town of Harlingen, province of Friesland. Two years ago, during building activities, a number of wells and pits with pottery, bone and wood were discovered by a local amateur archaeologist. Last year a pond was planned very close to the site where the wells and pits were discovered. This excavation opportunity might help us determine the nature, extent and dating of the site. A section was made in which several gullies were observed, from which a number of pottery sherds could be collected. These belong to the Late Iron Age (200 BC-0) and are the typical pottery of the Frisian terpen culture. Most probably we are dealing with the levelled site of a single-house terp (artificial dwelling mound).
