Samenvatting

The lack of finds from the fourth and early fifth centuries AD in the Dutch terp area may reflect a hiatus in habitation. On the other hand, it might equally be a dating problem, reflecting a gap in our knowledge of early medieval find ma­terial. If we accept the theory of colonization in the 6th and 7th centuries, then one probable source of newcomers, judging by historical and archaeological evidence, was southeastern Britain.
