ROMEINSE KOLONISATIE TEN ZUIDEN VAN ROME (4), VELDVERKENNINGEN IN HET HOOGLAND VAN DE ROMEINSE KOLONIE SETIA (CENTRAAL-ITALIË)
Samenvatting
In January 1997 a one-week reconnaissance survey was carried out in the highlands near the ancient Roman colony of Setia. Various sites were documented, ranging in time from the Bronze Age to the Roman Republican and early medieval periods. Of these sites, the protohistoric settlement area of Selva Forcella, possibly connected to the cave cemetery of Vittorio Vecchi in the Contrada Longara, was subjected to an intensive survey. The results of the reconnaissance are evaluated in the light of earlier field research by the Pontine Region Project in the lowlands of the Ager Setina, which aimed at an assessment of the impact of Roman colonialism on the protohistoric patterns of settlement and land use in this area.
