For various reasons, archaeozoological reports and articles pay little attention to small rodents. This makes them an underestimated category, which is unfortunate because their remains can provide information on the former distribution of the species concerned. This can be of interest to people involved in nature conservation. In this article the value of small rodents in archaeozoological analyses is demonstrated on the basis of a survey of the finds of five species of vole in 14 Dutch Neolithic sites.
