EEN FEDERMESSER-VINDPLAATS BIJ DOETINCHEM (GLD.), MET VIJF RETOUCHOIRS ROND EEN HAARD
Samenvatting
A new Federmesser site near Doetinchem is briefly described A hearth was present here, as is evident from a semicircular patch of redcoloured soil. Within the red zone, many hundreds of small fragments of burnt bone were found. At about 2 m west of the hearth a concentration of burnt bone was present without red colaration of the soil: probably a dump. Among the flint tools, scrapers are predominant; furthermore there are burins and a series of Federmesser points and for backed bladelets. An interesting aspect of the site is the presence of 5 (mostly fragmented) retouchoirs, mostly made of fine quartzite. These occurred in a semicircle around the hearth, at a distance of about 2 m. The retouchoirs of Doetinchem are strikingly similar to those found at the Federmesser site of Niederbieber IV in Germany.
