Samenvatting

Reconnaissance surveys at the old coal field of Podo, southern Sulawesi, Indonesia, have yielded surface sites most probably belonging to the Epi-palaeolithic/Mesolithic Toalean culture, as well as vertebrate remains of an Eocene marine fauna, characteristic of sheltered coastal waters. Significant among these are rib fragments of sea cows, of the Sirenia order.
