Samenvatting

A die for making a cross-hatched pattern on gold foil was found during excavations on a dwelling mound at Wijnaldum, Friesland. The die has been analysed at the Ancient Monuments Labaratory of English Heritage and at the Department of Scientific Research of The British Museum, Lon­don. The XRF and SEM analyses show that the die is made of a leaded bronze. SEM photos show the irregularities in the pattern.
