ARCHEOLOGISCHE VERKENNINGEN IN DE MONDING VAN DE NOORDELIJKE DVINA IN HET NOORDEN VAN RUSLAND
Samenvatting
The delta of the Northem Dvina in the White Sea is a very young and dynamic area. It is formed in the tidal stretch of the river Dvina and is composed of same streams with sandy levees and floodplains consisting of clay and peat with marshes behind the levees. In the last two millennia, the area has been a junelian of migration and trade routes. Many cultures have passed through the delta during that period. In June 2000, an archaeological survey was carried out to locate sites of archaeological interest in the southern part of the Dvina. This survey was preceded by historical and cartographical research in Dutch and Russian archives and libraries.
