Samenvatting
In co-operation with the Department for Languages and Cultures, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), U.S.A., palynological research has been initiated in two basins between Karaman Maraş and Gaziantep, southern Turkey. The valleys were attractive living areas in the past. About 50 dwelling mounds (tells) have been recorded, dating from the Aceramic Neolithic to the Arab period. A team of archaeologists is excavating the Neolithic Halaf site af Domuztepe (5500- 4500/4400 BP) in the eastern basin (Narli Ovasi). One of the aims af the palynological research is the reconstruction of the vegetation history and the impact of the exploitation of the environment by man. Four corings have been performed in the eastern basin: Evri 7.30 m, Cökilli 3.20 m, Domuztepe 4. 70 m and Hamizkanli 1.40 m. Two corings from the western basin (Saglik Ovasz ar Gavur Göl) rendered 9.15 m and 2.50 m af sediment, respectively.
