DE VERWARRENDE COMPLEXITEIT VAN DE FEDERMESSERTRADITIE; NOTITIES NAAR AANLEIDING VAN EEN MONUMENTAAL BOEKWERK
Samenvatting
The large Federmesser site at Rekem in Belgium is briefly discussed, prompted by the extensive two-volume publication by De Bie & Caspar (2000). The book contains a wealth of information, and will be considered a milestone in Palaeolithic research. Critical remarks are made concerning a possible tent structure postulared by De Bie & Caspar at Rekem (locus JO), and also concerning their idea that the central cluster of same twelve find scatters represent simultaneous occupation by a large group of people. The possibility that this cluster resulted from a series of small-scale occupations (possibly by the same group) seems more plausible.
