Samenvatting

The author opposes some ofthe views in Fokkens' contribution to the Patina Festschrift for Jay But­ler (Fokkens, 2001). The picture given of Early Bronze Age Barbed Wire pottery is one-sided. The Late Neolithic tradition, mainly apparent in the small (and early?) beakers is prominenfly featured, whereas the bigger, coarse ware is seri­ously neglected. Other major points of criticism concern Fokkens' views on Bronze Age houses in the Netherlands. ln his illustration of the structu­ral reconstruction of the buildings he uncritically follows Huijts (1992), besides using uncustomary English terminology for the elements ofthe build­ings.
