Recent onderzoek in de omgeving van de Timpone Motta, Francavilla Marittima (Calabria), en het RAGANELLO ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

Samenvatting

This article presents a brief overview of recent field studies by members of the Groningen Institute of Archaeology in the catchment area of the protohistorical settlement and temple complex on the Timpone della Motta, a hilltop on the edge of the plain of Sibari in Calabria. These studies include systematic and intensive field walking, protection of caves and transhumance routes into the mountainous hinterland, the development of new field methods and technology, and environmental (landevaluation, geogenetic and palynological) studies. The article also presents plans to consolidate and expand archaeological research in the area in the period 2003–2008.
