Botten onder de slaapkamervloer in Kroddeburen (Gr.)
Samenvatting
The remains of two humans and one bovine, dating from late medieval times, were found underneath a bedroom floor at Kroddeburen (Groningen). The skulls of both young males were missing and one of the top cervical vertebrae was sliced in half. This suggests a violent death by decapitation. Since there were no other finds on the site and no such evidence is known from historical sources, the site probably was not a graveyard. In medieval times there was a pillory nearby. However, the historical records do not mention a death sentence in this area. A plausible explanation for this strange combination of finds is therefore hard to give.
