Samenvatting

The corpus of so-called Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooches from the Dutch province of Friesland has increased to over 165 items. These date from after AD 400 and before 550, and were mostly produced locally. Both chronologically and stylistically the Frisian specimens take an intermediate position between the North German and Danish groups on the one hand, and the East England group on the other, the movement apparently following the assumed migration route. It is clear that settlers in new areas kept in close contact with their region of origin.
